I believe that the most important language our students can learn is computer programming language or "code". In honor of Computer Science Education Week, a world-wide "hour of code" is being sponsored. The goal is to have as many students as possible spending an hour learning how to code during the week of December 9 - 15. Students in grades 3 - 6 at Grovecrest will be participating in this event during their computer time this week. They will be using the program Light-Bot. I am excited to support this event...it's going to be great! Hopefully we will create a spark for some future programmers. Watch the video clip below to hear why others believe teaching code is so important.
As a parent, I think this will be a great opportunity for my kids to see how computers and the Internet really work, and that they can learn how to make things work once they know the language. I encourage parents to visit Code.org for more information. I looked things over there at a high level and was impressed. I know a little HTML and want to expand that knowledge, and I think Code.org will even be beneficial to me in that respect.

Josh, if you are looking to learn HTML and other programming languages(CSS, Java), I highly recommend looking at codeacademy.org. I have gone through the HTML lessons myself and was very impressed with how easy it was.
